My Journey into 3d Archery

My Journey into 3D ArcheryI am super excited that next month is the start of 3D archery at my local bow hunting club. I signed up for the club in July of last year because I wanted to meet new people that were involved in archery and hunting because I don’t know anybody right now. Sadly I never made it to any of the events last year so it didn’t work out like I had planned. This year will be different though.

This year I will be an active member and meet new archers which will be nice. It kinda sucks shooting by myself all the time so it would be nice to have someone to shoot with. I a round of 3D at my local bow shop last year and it was so much fun, even though I was shooting by myself. So I think that shooting with new friends would make it that much more fun.

The club that I joined is Flint River Bowhunters Club. It is located at Big Hollow Recreation Area here in Iowa. The first 3d shoot will be the 23rd of April from 8am to 1pm and I can’t wait. I know I’m not the best shooter but I’m hoping that the competition will help me improve my shots.

I don’t have my bow setup completely ready for 3D yet but I will start off with what I have. I think the only thing I need to get is a sight lens and a mount for my back bar. I also need to get my sight sighted in for my new bow. I got the Halon 32 this year and haven’t really been able to get outside to get my marks at 60 to find my sight tape.

I will be shooting in the open class, which I like because I shoot the single pin Hogg Father. The only thing that concerns me is that it is unknown distance. I such at judging yardage so I will have to work on that a lot in this next month. I don’t think I will do that bad but it will take some practice.

I finally got my son into archery so he will also be shooting with me at the 3D shoot. So even if I don’t score that high I will still have a great time shooting with him. I’ve been trying to get him into the sport for a while now and he is finally starting to enjoy it so it will be a good time.

Right now my setup is:

Next year I plan on buying a bow that is dedicated just for target.  But right now I’m using my hunting bow for everything.  I will be getting the Tru Fire Sear here in the next couple of weeks when they come out but it will probably be a while before I will use it for scoring. I’ve never shot a hinge release so there will be a lot of practice with it before I use it in competition.

This will be a lot of fun no matter how well I shoot. Meeting new people with the same passion that I have and shooting with my son is all that matters.
